Hey Dollls,

I had an amazing sit down with one of my really good friends, Rachel. We both used to intern at a very popular music studio in Atlanta and that’s where we met, clicked and been friends ever since.  We sat down to chat at Shout in Atlanta for the $10 all you can eat Sushi lunch special. Which might I add is one of my favorite go to lunch spots. Yum! Rachel has recently achieved some pretty major things. She is the new personal assistant for Cyhi The Prince, who is an artist on Kanye West’s record label G.O.O.D Music. She also has a successful EDM blog entitled, Bass Is My Boyfriend, which I think is a pretty neat name if you ask me. Here’s the transcript from our one on one:

Me:  Thank You for coming out to chat with me. Let’s start off this interview with where were you born and raised?

Rachel: Well I’m from Kentucky, Louisville.  My acceptance to Emory University is what brought me to Atlanta.

Me: So you have a blog entitled Bass Is My Boyfriend. Where in the world did you come up with that name?

Rachel: I started the blog in December of 2011. I was looking for a name that would move with me, you know? The funny thing is I got the name from a G Chat conversation with my friend. I was having a casual conversation with one of my friends and the statement “Bass Is my Boyfriend” was made. Once I saw that, I was like that’s it! That’s my name.  I like that.

Me: What sparked your interest in EDM music?

Rachel: My Dad introduced me to Ghostland Observatory when I was younger and I listened to EDM house music in H.S. I enjoyed songs such as Satisfaction by Benny Benassi and Be Still by Kascade. At that time, a lot of my friends were also going abroad to Europe. They introduced me to all kinds of new EDM music. I attended my first festival in 2010, which was the Ultra Music Festival. It was an awesome experience. After that, I wasn’t able to shake my love for EDM music.

Me:  I know you enjoy a lot of different artisst but if you could pick one which one would you say is your favorite EDM artist?

Rachel: Gosh. That’s a hard one. You know what I’ll give you a few off the top of my head. I love A -Trak, Stubborn Heart from the UK and James Blake. I actually met him at SXSW earlier this year. I also met Keys & Krates. It was awesome.

Me:  I heard that you are Cyhi The Prince’s new assistant. Congrats girl! How has that been for you?

Rachel: Thank You! (Big smile on her face) One word to describe my experience is hardwork. Period. But it’s been awesome. The biggest thing I’ve had to work on is time management and following up with people. Sometimes I get so exhausted so I always have to remember to be pleasant as well.

Me: I know that involves a lot of traveling. Have you visited any cool places yet?

Rachel: Most recently I visited Columbia, SC. The tour starts in a few weeks. So pretty soon I’ll be all over the place.

Me: Cyhi is a humble guy and a real great artist. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him a few times. If you had to describe Cyhi in one word, what would it be?

Rachel: Passionate. He is so passionate about his art.

Me: Ok. Ok. I definitely see that. For those readers who aren’t familiar with Cyhi, what would you like them to know about him?

Rachel: He’s an incredible artist. He makes music worth listening to. You don’t just hear his music, you have to listen to it.

Me: That was deep. I like that one. Where do you see yourself within the next 5 years.

Rachel: LA! Definitely, LA.

Me: That was real straight to the point. (laughs)Before we get out of here, what would you like your followers to know about the future of  BIMB?

Rachel: I want them to know that I’m going to keep highlighting the Indie side of EDM. I want to be a dig for good music such as real house and trance. Also, give exposure to smaller groups.

Me: One last very important question. What do you think about young girls and young adults in 2013? What do you feel like these girls need to know?

Rachel: That they should be confident. Confidence is key! Also, I need them to realize that the world doesn’t revolve around them. Keep doing your best but honestly, I see these things on Instagram, and I just want to say to these young girls no one gives a shit!

Haha! Love this girl. Thanks for reading.
