This past weekend I had a whirlwind romance with  Drum ‘n’  Bass and Electronica music. For those of you who aren’t familiar with both genre’s of music let me give you a quick history lesson. Drum ‘n’ Bass was birthed in the early 1990’s stemming from an intense rave scene in the United Kingdom. Drum ‘n’ Bass is encompassed with heavy bass and dub bass lines.  Electronica music also emerged in the 1990’s. There are many variations of this ever so entrancing music. My favorite form of Electronica music is dance. This now brings me to the main reason that I wrote this blog entry: Skrillex!

I had the pleasure of attending the Virgin Mobile Freefest  in Columbia, Maryland.  I enjoyed various acts from Nervo, Nas, Jack White, Santigold to Skrillex! His set was the last show on the main stage which was perfect. As soon as I got off work, I ran to the main stage to claim my spot on the grass. I stood there in anticipation waiting for his set to drop. As soon as Skrillex started performing the crowd went wild. From lasers to smoke screens, to people losing their inhibitions I was locked in to what proved to be one of the greatest shows I’ve seen in a while. I loved the dancing robot on the jumbatron. I was jumping up and down, dancing and throwing my hands in the air. Quite frankly, I had waaay too much fun. If you ever have the opportunity, I suggest you check out Skrillex at a festival near you. You won’t regret it.
